Weekly Watch Photo – Chopard Classic Racing Collections

| By Frank Geelen | 2 min read |

Chopard has a long-standing relationship with motorsports, and most collectors are aware of the brand’s partnership with the Mille Miglia classic car rally. Since 2002, Chopard has also been the official timekeeper of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, a biannual event in which classic ’70s race cars race through the Monegasque streets.

We aren’t surprised that Chopard dedicated several collections to their relationship with racing events and that they, lucky for us, made for some very cool photos. Recently Chopard introduced a new collection, is the Superfast collection, that features several new in-house movements. This is the Superfast Chrono in 18 carat rose gold.

Inside ticks Chopard’s in-house self-winding movement caliber 03.05-M. Besides Chopard’s in-house movements, which are used in the L.U.C collection, this is a new in-house movement. I hope to visit Chopard later this year and will report back about their new in-house calibers.

Let’s enjoy some of the mood photos of the three collections that pay tribute to Chopard’s relation with two racing events and the new Superfast.

Classic car racing has of course an entirely different style. It were those brave men and they machines! Now-a-days the Formula 1 race looks like a well organized chaos with drivers, mechanics and computer experts together trying to squeeze out an extra 1/100th of a second. To me that sounds more like a quartz watch and that is exactly to opposite of what I’m showing you in this Weekly Watch Photo. On Monochrome, mechanics rule!

Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique

A collection that was introduced, when Chopard became official timekeeper of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, in 2002. On the wrist of the driver is the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique 2012 edition in titanium. Inside it, is a ETA/Valjoux 7750 based movement.

Another collection that is also equipped with ETA and ETA/Valjoux based calibers, is the Mille Miglia collection. Chopard’s relation with the Mille Miglia is a long one and since the beginning they have paid tribute to this relation with the Mille Miglia collection. Not only chronographs, but also HMS timepieces or with additional GMT, power reserve and the combination of a chronograph with GMT function.

  1. Does anyone know the name or at least the brand of the sunglasses that the driver’s using in the last picture?
