Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso case construction

| By Frank Geelen | 1 min read |

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s reverso is a remarkable watch. This is because the case can be turned around while it remains on the wrist. Jaeger-LeCoultre developed this case construction to protect the vulnerable crystal from the hardship of the polo game.

On one of my favorite forums, The PuristS Pro, a member posted photos of his Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Grande GMT undergoing a full service and thus being taken apart. All photos where taken by the watchmaker performing the service.

The photos give a very interesting view of the case construction of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso and especially the mechanism that enables flipping the case around. Here is a photo of one of my favorites of this Jaeger LeCoultre series… the Reverso Grande GMT.

The dials can show time in two different timezones. The white dial also has a grand date, small second hand and a day & night indicator. The reverse side, which is black, shows besides hours and minutes, a 24 hour indicator, 8 day power reserve indicator and the time difference with the Greenwich Mean Time or GMT.

Besides the incredibly nice design it’s a wonder of mechanics. With so much features in such a small wristwatch. This Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Grande GMT is in rose gold and steel, with choices of a bracelet or leather strap with deployant clasp.

  1. Thanks for this link! Was looking for this quite some time now, but never came across it.
Recently saw the screws to that fix the two ‘caps’ your see on the right on the first photo. This gave away how the case is fixed to the base. Like the ss version more ;-).

A great pleasure to see these photos, thanks again.
