Jaeger LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra Thin and Tribute to 1931

| By Frank Geelen | 2 min read |

Jaeger LeCoultre unveils the new Grande Reverso Ultra Thin and the Reverso Tribute to 1931. After 80 years the Reverso is still one of the most iconic watches ever made and the new Ultra Thin looks like a valuable addition to the Reverso collection.

I assume most watch aficionados know Jaeger LeCoultre developed the Reverso in response to English polo players who wanted a watch that would not break during their polo game. The reversible case, launched in 1931, is a simple yet effective solution to protect your watch from being broken during certain activities. The new Grande Reverso Ultra Thin’s design has definitely something of the 1930’s aura.

Jaeger LeCoultre made many variations of the Reverso, during the past 80 years. From the Reverso Classique with the exact dimensions as the original Art Deco classic design to the modern Reverso Squandra collection with a more contemporary size and design. And there are of course the Reverso Complication models, like the Reverso Grande Date I once owned.

The new Ultra Thin models feature the manually-wound movement, Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 822. This caliber is also used in the Reverso Grande Taille, however the off center small seconds hand has been removed. Calibre 822 with 21 jewels beats with 21,600 vibration per hour and offers 45 hours of power reserve.

The new models, the Grande Reverso Ultra  Thin and Reverso Tribute to 1931, will be available in 18-carat pink gold and in steel. The case will be 46mm from top to bottom, 27,5 mm wide and only 7,2 mm thick. Both models will lack the Jaeger LeCoultre writing on the dial and the distinction between the two models will be the hour-markers. The Grand Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931 features applied hour-markers on a black dial or golden numerals and hour-markers on a silvered dial. The ‘normal’ Grande Reverso Ultra Thin will have stamped numeral and hour-markers.

The Grande Reverso Ultra Thin in 18-carat pink gold will be limited although the press release doesn’t mention how much will be available. Maybe 1931 pieces?
