A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar

The week always starts with a Weekly Watch Photo here at Monochrome Watches. The photos of this week are provided by German watch manufacture A. Lange & Söhne and they have created a set of brilliant photos… again! It is of course no surprise to you, that we just love the watches from A. Lange & Söhne. For their stylish classic looks, for the beautiful movements with three-quarter plate, for the brilliant finishing and for some of the most remarkable innovative timepieces of the last 15 years. So let’s enjoy the beauty of three of their latest timepieces in a befitting setting.

The photo above show the 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calender that was introduced in January of this year. The watch is placed on a 1919 Horch four-cylinder engine (14/40 HP). I have to admit that I never heard of Horch, but after reading this article at Wikipedia, it’s become clear that Horch is the predecessor of what we know know as Audi. This name is actually based on the surname of the founder, August Horch. “Horch”, meaning “listen”, becomes “Audi” when translated into Latin. Horch invented the first six-cylinder engine in 1907, was the first to shift the engine forward for better weight distribution and introduced the drive shaft to replace the cumbersome belt drive systems.

On the photo below is the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Up/Down, which debuted earlier this year and we showed it to you here, on the tire of an Auto Union racing car Type C.

A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Up/Down

This 1936 Auto Union racing car Type C, is one of the most successful German Grand Prix racing cars of all time. The so-called “Silver Arrow from Zwickau” set over 30 world records. The speed record of 380 kilometers per hour in an open road race, still stands today and testifies to the capabilities of Saxon engineers. The city of Zwickau and Audi AG have jointly founded the August Horch Museum Zwickau (in 12-12-2000) and after the extensive rehabilitation of the century-old buildings as well as the redesign and expansion of the exhibits, the museum was reopened in 2004. It portrays the history of venerable brands – Horch, Audi, DKW, Wanderer, Auto Union, Sachsenring, Trabant and VW – and is one of two museums in Germany that occupy original buildings of an automaker. Since the venue was reopened, the number of visitors has tripled to some 75,000 persons per year. For the city of Zwickau, the museum has become a flagship tourist attraction and an important economic factor. Sounds like a short trip to the Dresden area is getting more and more interesting!

And without further ado… enjoy these gorgeous photos of the beautiful A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Up/Down, 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar and the Saxonia Annual Calendar (also introduced in 2013).
