Summer’s Over, Back To School – Letter From The Editor

Ulysse Nardin Classic Dual Time Boutique Edition

Summer’s over and it’s back to business as usual. Over the past weeks, we have published a bit less, and that was not only due to the diminished number of news and press releases that we received from watch brands. Our team has enjoyed their summer holidays, and as usual, after the summer, travel season starts. Travel season? Yes, I’ll tell more about that, and about the columnist extraordinaire who wrote a four part history of the Submariner for you, and more.

Women’s Watch Wednesday

But first of all, I want to look back at the first articles about lady’s watches that we started publishing as of July. Once every two weeks, we ran an article about women’s watches, penned down by non-other than Roberta Naas. According to Google Analytics approx. 8% of our readership is of the fairer sex, and we all hope that they will appreciate and enjoy that we started paying some attention to lady’s watches, as in the entire online world it’s mainly about men’s watches. It might also help our male readers to find a nice watch for their girlfriends, spouses, daughters, and mothers. And by all means, do let us know what you think of the Monochrome take on women’s watches!Breguet Reine de Naples Mini 8928

Travel Season

Brice enjoyed his holidays, and so did Xavier, and Robin. Tom, well he’s sort of a digital nomad, so we could say he’s on a permanent holiday. So now starts the travel season. Yes, that’s what we call it. As of the end of August, our schedules are filled with lots of trips, and Brice is the first of the team to leave the office and he’s heading towards the Swiss mountains. Not to visit any manufacture this time, but to participate in the Passione Engadina. This is a rally with classic Italian cars that leads through the Swiss Alps, on some of the world’s most beautiful mountain roads. Yep, terrible for him! Rest assured, he will share everything here on Monochrome.

In the coming two months I’ll be visiting Spa Francorchamps, Florence, Milan, the Historical Grand Prix in Zandvoort, Netherlands, and some place far away in the Rocky Mountains. And there will be more trips, because we will also be visiting several manufactures in Switzerland, and we’ll cover that with videos for you. Lots of travelling, and we’ll keep you posted via our social media channels!

Rolex Submariner History

When you’re a frequent reader of Monochrome, you probably know that we’re not covering vintage every week. Fact of the matter is that although we love vintage, we’re no vintage experts. So we’re looking for some help in that department. For the time being, we found Paul Alteri, columnist extraordinaire for the occasion, willing to write a four-part history of the Rolex Submariner. Some of you might know his name; Paul is the man behind Bob’s Watches. Usually we do not accept articles from others than our own team. And no, this isn’t sponsored content. It’s simply that when I started reading about watches, the Bob’s Watches website used to be one of the few nice places where I could drool all over beautiful watches, and learn a thing or two. So when Paul mailed me that he had just acquired “the missing link” I was in awe. An icon, a legendary watch, and he found one i that is in a very good condition! I asked Paul to do a four-part write-up on the first Submariners and I’m happy to say that he accepted.

Rolex 6202 Turn-o-Graph Pre-Submariner

As of this afternoon, we’ll start with part 1, and when you do not know about the watch above, the “missing link” you can read all about it. Tomorrow afternoon part 2 (after my Piaget Altiplano review in the morning), and part 3 and 4 will be published on Saturday and Sunday.

Hope you like it as much as I do. Have fun reading, and if you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate… comments below, and question via the form over here. Thanks so much!
