Roger Dubuis Hommage Double Tourbillon

In the weeks before the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), which will be held in Geneva from 20-24 January, you will get to see quite some new timepieces and during the watch fair, it will be even more. Like the Frankfurt Motor Show or the Geneva Motor Show are for cars, the SIHH is a perfect moment for the watch industry to show their latest timepieces. One of Roger Dubuis’ newest timepieces is the Hommage Double Flying Tourbillon with a stunning hand-guilloché dial.

Geneva-based watch brand Roger Dubuis, one of the sixteen brands who will be exposing at the upcoming SIHH, can be considered as one of the most extravagant brands in the watch industry. Not only the design of their watches is extravagant, also the lavishly finished movements can be called extravagant. But hey, this is what makes that Roger Dubuis is still the only watch brand that is 100% Poinçon de Genève certified.

Now before we go further, I have to make a confession…. Usually I do not like a hole in a dial. Whether the hole is to display a part of the movement or dedicated to showing just the tourbillon and its bridge, I prefer a closed dial. I know, this is something very personal and I realize that probably many of you have a different opinion about this. However I do have a few exceptions, maybe a hand-full. The Roger Dubuis tourbillon watches are such an exception. The reason for this, is that I find Roger Dubuis’ tourbillons extremely beautiful, both in design and in finish! There, I said it.

Maybe you can imagine my enthusiasm when I saw Roger Dubuis’ latest creation, featuring two tourbillons. I know that such an extravagance will not be for everyone’s taste! My usual conservative taste for watches, was totally swept of its feet after wearing the Roger Dubuis Pulsion Skeleton Flying Tourbillon for an entire month (review will follow soon!). Such a daily dosage of Haute Horlogerie excess on the wrist, is mesmerizing and intoxicating.

Roger Dubuis’ latest creation features not “just” two flying tourbillons, the entire dial is a hand-guiloché piece of art. Or actually, there is no dial. The movement’s main plate features the hand-guilloché adornment. Usually guilloché is usually not as “deep” as this watch features. Its impressive “depth” is the result of passing the engine-turning tool across each notch or groove at least four times instead of the usual one or two! The size of each, and the pressure, must be carefully balanced so as to ensure an harmonious appearance. The resulting three-dimensional effect is truly striking and the 5N rose gold Roman numerals are fitted directly onto the mainplate.

The finishing on the movement’s back side, visible through a sapphire pane in the case back, was changed from (the usual) vertical Co?tes de Gene?ve to a circular Co?tes de Gene?ve motif. The backside of the movement also features a power reserve indicator, which indicates how much of the 50 hours of autonomy are left before you should wind it again.

As the ultimate finishing touch to this outstanding timepiece, the distinctive signature of Mr Roger Dubuis on the back of the timepiece, visually symbolizes his seal of approval.
