Piaget Polo S Green Dial Limited Edition

A colourful take on Piaget's vision of the luxury sports watch.

| By Tom Mulraney | 2 min read |

It’s a new year and a new colour for Piaget’s sporty Polo S. After the more sombre tones of 2017’s Black ADLC / Rubber Limited Editions, Piaget is livening things up with a green dial and complementary dark green alligator leather strap. It’s a bold choice but one that really seems to work for this model. I’m not sure it will be enough to win over the Polo S’ more vocal critics but you never know.

Launched in 2016, the Polo S offers a standard three-hand configuration with a date window just above 6 o’clock. Consider it Piaget’s take on the luxury sports watch in steel. Admittedly that take is very similar to that of some other well-known brands/models, but that story has already been told many times before. (You can read our thoughts on it here.)

Putting aside all that, however, one has to acknowledge that the Piaget Polo S is a pretty nice watch. The 42mm steel case mixes a round bezel with a cushion-shaped dial and is quite distinctive on the wrist. The aforementioned bezel has a brushed finish, which contrasts pleasantly against the polished surfaces of the case, which itself is reasonably thin at 9.4mm.

This new version is particularly eye-catching thanks to its verdant dial complete with horizontal pattern. It’s a nice complement to the other models already in the line-up, which feature more conservative dial colours like blue, silver and anthracite. As with those dials, this one features applied indexes and dauphine-shaped hands, all treated with SuperLuminova. This is a luxury sports watch after all.

Inside is the same Piaget self-winding calibre 1110P, beating at 4Hz and offering a power reserve of 50 hours. It’s based on the Piaget 800P Calibre and has been decorated with circular Geneva Stripes, blued screws, polished bevels, and the Piaget coat of arms engraved on the slate grey coloured gold oscillating weight. All of which is visible through the sapphire caseback.

Limited to 500 pieces, this new Piaget Polo S with green dial will be available on a green alligator leather strap with folding buckle in steel. Price to be confirmed but expect it to be in-line with previous models, meaning EUR 8,800. More details at piaget.com.

  1. I don’t usually like green dials, but this is nice and understated.

  2. Nice watch. Also nice coverage from Monochrome. Surprised this site is not getting as much attention or comments as the other 2 more famous ones. Maybe the commenting section here needs some improvement.

  3. EBO, I have wondered that myself. The other sites are a bit more glossy/corporate, which really puts me off. I wonder whether that means they have bigger backers or appeal to would-be masters-of-the-business-universe more? I remember on one of these sites a reviewer who specialises in marketing gobbledigook (and is responsible for the appalling phrase “Richard Mille lives the values of his brand”) took Mido to task for not having “a story”. Shortly after this article, Mido started pretending that various models were “based on the Eiffel Tower” or “evoke The Sydney Opera House” etc. This is sheer patronising nonsense.
Of course, it might simply be that most watch enthusiasts have limited time/inclination to branch out. One way that Monochrome could differentiate itself is by employing the services of a trained watchmaker to produce an ongoing series of genuinely in-depth teardowns of watch movements and horological tutorials which allow hobbyists to feel they are learning more.
