Parmigiani launches the Transforma Rivages

| By Frank Geelen | 2 min read |

Parmigiani has just released the Transforma Rivages, a new titanium/carbon version of the Tonda Transforma Chronograph they released last year. The new version is limited to 100 pieces and has been designed in especially for Swiss skipper Bernard Stamm.

Of course this has a reason! Bernard Stamm has just left for a three-month solo trip around the world, taking part of the legendary Vendée Globe race, together with 19 other skippers and their yachts. The new Transforma Rivages has been adapted to the needs of Bernard during his challenging trip.

This chameleon-like wrist watch (also pocket watch or desk clock) can be used in various ways, however in this case it can also be used as an on-board instrument. The main purpose was to create a timepiece capable of supporting Bernard Stamm in every extreme situation. The look of the chronograph’s dial takes its inspiration from the Rivages yacht: the counters are made from carbon and the hands, along with the dial’s design of a stylized world map, are the same «Rivages blue» as the monohull’s logo.

On the wrist, the Transforma Rivages is light and comfortable, because of the used materials like titanium and carbon. The Transforma’s construction is equipped with a jaw, gripping and clamping the main body of the watch. The titanium hood is released by simply pressing the two side push-pieces positioned on the two lower lugs.

The watch’s case, machined from the same carbon fibre as the Rivages’ monohull (the yacht), sits perfectly in the support of the titanium holder. Because of its asymmetric shape, it is easy to access crown and use the chronograph.

The movement is the in-house developed and produced chronograph caliber with automatic winding, calibre PF 334. It has 55 hours of power reserve. Besides the time and chronograph, it also has a date function that is visible in a large aperture at the 6 o’clock position. The carbon case measures 43 mm in diameter and 12.80 mm in height, including the titanium holder. It’s water resistant to (just) 30 meters, which we hope is enough for this skipper. The case, when taken out of its titanium holder, can also be placed in the yacht’s dashboard.
