Liv Watches The Breakthrough Kickstarter Campaign

The folks at LIV Watches already know a bit about creating watches and funding them on Kickstarter. Their new “The Breakthrough” campaign isn’t their first offence. Yet, here it’s not one watch but a series of 3 automatic watches (and one quartz that won’t be covered here… you know us at MONOCHROME) that will be offered. Bold styles, 3 different inspirations – pilot, racing, diving – all of them powered by Swiss mechanical movement and offered, as usual, at great prices. Please meet the LIV Watches GX P-51 Chronograph, the GX Automatic Chrono and the GX Divers – all now available on Kickstarter

The GX P-51 Auto-Chronograph Pilot

The first watch in this new “The Breakthrough” campaign, which certainly is the flagship model in this new collection, is a bold, masculine and robust pilot’s chronograph. Inspired by the P51 Mustang WW2 Plane, it shows a 46mm case in stainless or titanium – depending on the model – and bears most of the pilot’s watch attributes: robust case, large pushers to be actuated with gloves, enhanced legibility, rotating bezel with 12-hour scale – note that the bezel’s insert is made of brushed ceramic.

Powering the GX P-51 Auto-Chronograph Pilot is a Swiss automatic movement – Sellita SW-500, a Valjoux clone – with 48h power reserve and day-date indication. The movement is visible through the caseback. The watch is available in several colours – steel/blue dial, black coated steel/black dial, black coated titanium/black dial, titanium/black dial and titanium/blue dial. All of them are paired with a riveted leather strap (with or without alligator pattern). This GX P-51 Auto-Chronograph Pilot is available on Kickstarter from USD 990 (steel models) or USD 1,190 (titanium models). The titanium models are even delivered with a watch winder. Only 500 pieces (all colours included) will be produced.

Quick facts: 46mm diameter x 15.9mm height – steel or titanium case – 12h ceramic bezel – 100m water resistant – sapphire crystal on both sides – Sellita SW-500 with day-date display

The GX Automatic Chrono

The second watch offered by LIV Watches for their new campaign should feel familiar to some. Indeed, a quartz model with this exact design was part of LIV Watches’ first campaign. However now, the new GX Automatic Chrono features a Sellita SW-500 automatic – visible through the caseback. The design remains the same, with utilitarian and racing inspirations. The oversized pushers, the contrasting bezel with a fine engraved pattern, the multi-layer dial or the overall inspiration behind this watch are clearly sporty and bold.

The case of the LIV Watches GX Automatic Chrono measures 46mm in diameter and is made of steel – which can be coated in black or in gold. The watch is also available with several dial options – white, black or blue – with altogether 7 different options to choose from. The display is classical, with the typical 6-9-12 chronograph layout and the date window positioned at 3 o’clock. All models are offered on leather straps. The GX Automatic Chrono will be a limited edition of 1,000 pieces (all colours included) and will be available as of USD 770.

The GX Divers Automatic

Alongside this pair of chronographs, LIV Watches is also offering a third automatic watch in their “The Breakthrough” campaign. Here again, the design is bold and masculine, with generous proportions – 44mm diameter – however with several nice details, such as the wave pattern on the dial or the addition of a 60-minute ceramic insert for the uni-directional bezel. The case is highly protected and so does the crown and water resistance is a very decent 300 meters.

Again, as the two other watches we’ve shown you above, the GX Divers Automatic is available in various choices for the case – steel, black-coated, gold-coated steel – and for the dial – blue, black with orange accents, black with yellow accents, black with white accents or grey, all with matching rubber straps. Inside the case is the ubiquitous automatic ETA 2824 with date display (positioned under a cyclops). Again, the movement is visible through the caseback. The GX Divers Automatic will be at a very reasonable price of USD 490 and limited to 1,000 pieces (all colours included).

All 4 watches of the LIV Watches “The Breakthrough” campaign (including the quartz-powered GX Alarm, not shown here) can be discovered on Kickstarter and ordered through this link. All of them come with a 5-year warranty and deliveries are expected in November 2018.

  1. I bought one of their automatic models – can’t remember which, a three hander in black with orange accents.

Of all my micro brand watches I’d say this gets worn the least. Just feels…cheap.

I was very surprised by the hype they got on KS comments from people. It’s nothing special somehow.

  2. I already pledged for 2 watches, will be a GX P-51 and a GX Automatic Chrono.
Anyway I love larger watches, and I am mostly into swiss-moved automatics.

I already own 3 LIV watches: a GX Base, a Rebel-DDC and a Rebel-AC. The first ones were bought because of their stunning design and colors, while the last one is top-end and one of my collectibles.
Collectible, because of the detail-loving design (feel free to look at it and discover something new!), the outstanding coloring, the quality, and the swiss auto movement. It is a numbered limited edition. And last but not least, they do a great job in everything, from marketing over product to service – so I believe in this brand to be on the market for a longer time, and it might be cool to have some of their first pieces.

As a collector, I have several brands, from serveral mid-range Hamilton’s or Mido’s or Oris’ to a top-end Panerai or many Micro-Brand watches.
Compared, LIV delivers top quality put together with a lot of individualism, since they are still a Micro-Brand and their lineup is very shiny, if you want that colors like I do.

Jeff, I really can’t follow your “cheap” impression, all I have feel very worthy and one-of-a-kind on my wrist.
