A New Girard-Perregaux WW.TC Chronograph with panda-dial

| By Frank Geelen | 2 min read |

By now I think it’s fair to say that the Girard-Perregaux WW.TC Chronograph has become one of the great classics in the watch industry. In the year 2000 they released the first World Wide Time Control and ever since its design and functionality have become a recognizable adornment of (mainly men’s) wrists.

Today Girard-Perregaux release a new version of the WW.TC Chronograph featuring a silver-finish dial with contrasting black sub dials and red for the key elements. The new and gorgeous ‘panda-dial’ WW.TC shows resemblance with the WW.TC Financial, however now with more contrast on the dial.

The WW.TC Chronograph combines the chronograph function of the in-house caliber GP033C with a worldtimer complication. This is BY FAR the most useful complication I’ve come across. Why? Well, as a blogger (and I’m sure many business men of other people with contacts around the world will think alike) I’m in daily contact with people from around the world. The worldtimer complication is the ONLY complication that tells the time in all parts of the world all at once. By looking at the worldtimer, I know the time in someone’s place and whether it’s day or night. This helps me not to call someone in the middle of his or her sleep 😉

The new WW.TC Chronograph displays the time (hour, minutes, seconds), date, worldtime and chronograph with a 30-minute and a 12-hour counter. The hands and hour indices are enhanced with a luminescent material. While the WW.TC does have it’s classy board-room chic, it also has a sporty look.

The stainless steel case measures 43 mm in diameter and is water resistant to 30 meters. Manufacture caliber GP033C0 measures 13ligne and has a power reserve of  46 hours. I’m always glad to see the beauty of a movement through the sapphire case back and especially with Girard-Perregaux, because the finish of the movement is stunning. Hand finished in the purest traditions of watch-making: the plate features circular graining, the bridges and oscillating weight are adorned with the Côtes de Genève and the steel screws are blued.

  1. I’m afraid that might be a problem. They could have added DST info to the ring, but that would result in a world timer-ring with too much information making it rather unreadable.
