The New Piaget Possession Collection – A Playful Take on Time

Not every woman’s watch has to be a mechanical wonder. Sometimes an intriguing design can elevate a quartz watch to new heights. Such is the case with the new Piaget Possession watches that were unveiled at the recent SIHH 2018 in Geneva. Ultra-feminine, sleek and super chic, the new Piaget Possession watches have a lot to offer in terms of color and design. Piaget, founded in 1874 when Georges-Edouard Piaget set up workshops in his family farmhouse in La Cote-aux-Feés, Switzerland, has long been known for its precision movements and, since the mid-20th century, for its superb jewelry. In fact, in the 1970s and 1980s, under the guidance of Yves Piaget – who seemed to be able to work magic with gold – the brand’s watches and jewelry took a new turn resulting in an explosion of style, color, shapes and designs that would forever make an impression in history books.

In the early 1990s, Piaget unveiled the Possession jewelry collection, which featured turning rings in their design. The concept was an immediate sensation, and the brand has since evolved the collection to include Piaget Possession watches with turning bezel rings, as well.

The New Generation of Piaget Possession Watches

Now, Piaget reinterprets the world of motion, of the iconic revolving rings, in a new collection that yields bold color via interchangeable straps, various diamond settings and even stainless-steel cases (which did not exist in the line before). In each of the new Possession watches, a rotating bezel turns around a second band allowing the wearer to constantly move the rings and remember that life is always in motion.

Additionally, the dials of the new Possession collection are cleaner and subtler in appeal. Whereas previous Possession watches featured Roman numerals, the new collection offers 11 round diamond markers for the hours on a silvery dial, with the Piaget logo at 3 o’clock. It makes for a crisp, clean, easy-to-read and easy-on-the-eye look.

The steel, unset edition of the new Piaget Possession

Offered in 29mm or 34mm sizes, the new Possession watches are created in 18k pink gold, 18k white gold, or in stainless steel. The stainless steel models and the 18k rose gold models can be ordered with only one diamond on the turning bezel rings.  The 18k pink gold and white gold Possession watches are offered with just the outer turning ring being diamond set, or – for those who love the glitz – with both rings set with brilliant-cut diamonds.

As mentioned, the watches also feature interchangeable straps and the colors on offer are a painter’s palette of hues ranging from bold lapis lazuli blue, midnight blue, and purple. The gold versions are sold with a choice of two straps. (Piaget is offering boutique exclusive Piaget Possession watches for the first time ever with gemstone dials such as turquoise, Carnelian, malachite and lapis lazuli – all with perfectly matched strap colors in blue, red, green and turquoise.)

My Favorites

After playing with all of the new Piaget Possession watches for a while, turning the rings, changing the straps, trying them all on, I knew I had to pick a favorite (or two). While I will admit I am a lover of gemstone dials, I gravitated to the 18k gold versions with silvery dials.

These have a bit more versatility as they match anything in a woman’s wardrobe. In fact, the idea that the watches are offered with two interchangeable strap color choices makes it even more wearable – and one can change one’s mind at whim.  The dial, devoid of any numerals, is actually quite alluring.

As to the turning rings, while I loved wearing a red-strapped 18k white gold Possession with both rings diamond set, I have to admit, the rose gold model, with a single diamond-set ring, and lapis-blue strap has a classic, sophisticated appeal. Of course, if price is an issue, the stainless steel, unset watch has a modern, youthful yet chic look to it as well.
