Omega Seamaster Olympic Games Gold Collection

Since 1932, Omega has been the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games, a role the brand will be playing until at least 2032 (even if we don’t know yet where the Games will be located). Easy to count… The Biel-based brand will be present at the Olympics for a full 100 years. To celebrate this centennial legacy, Omega presents a new podium of watches known as the Seamaster Olympic Games Gold Collection, a trilogy of elegant, vintage-inspired timepieces representing the three winning medals presented to athletes at the Olympic Games.

The Omega Seamaster Olympic Games Gold Collection is closer in spirit to a limited edition watch, like the one we introduced you to a few months ago, the Seamaster Edizione Venezia. Reasonably sized, elegantly shaped, with a historically relevant design, this attractive Italian edition was an inspiration for the new Olympic Games Gold Collection – reinterpreted with interesting details and updates.

The case of the Omega Seamaster Olympic Games Gold watches measures 39.5mm in diameter – a very balanced, subtle size, that does not sacrifice its presence on the wrist. As a representation of the three winning medals, it will be available in three different 18k gold alloys: yellow gold, pink “Sedna” gold (Omega’s own pink gold alloy) and, a novelty for the brand, white “Canopus” gold. “Canopus” is an exclusive white gold alloy, which is noble and distinctive for its high brilliance, whiteness and longevity. It isn’t rhodium plated, like most white gold cases and will retain its bright, white colour for a much longer period.

The case is shaped like historical Seamaster watches, with a think bevelled and polished bezel and twisted “lyre” lugs, reminiscent of 1960s watches of the brand. Combined with this elegant case is a nude dial, which only displays the hours, minutes and seconds, without a date. The domed dials of the Omega Seamaster Olympic Games Gold Collection are (rare for the brand) eggshell-white enamel and feature a distinctive vintage Omega logo in red. Apart from that, only the “Seamaster” logo is visible on the dial, as well as the signature triangular applied indexes and leaf hands (both are made in 18k gold, matching the case).

Inside the case is the in-house calibre 8807. An automatic movement with a 55-hour power reserve,  the rotor is crafted in 18k Sedna gold and it features a transversal balance bridge – plus all the usual technical refinements of Omega’s movements: silicon hairspring with anti-magnetic properties; Co-Axial escapement; Master Chronometer certification by METAS… In short, a true precision engine. This movement is visible through the case back and surrounded by an 18k gold ring, which includes the names of all the host cities from Omega’s first Olympic Games in Los Angeles 1932 up to Los Angeles 2028.

Each piece in the Omega Seamaster Olympic Games Gold Collection can be purchased separately. The watches are presented on either brown or black leather straps. Prices for the watches will be CHF 16,000 (before taxes) for the 18k Yellow Gold and 18k Sedna Pink Gold versions, and CHF 17,500 (before taxes) for the white “Canopus” gold version.
