Meet MB&F HM4 Razzle Dazzle and Double Trouble

We already love everything MB&F releases and now they make us like their watches… euh, I mean Horological Machines even more! Two new limited editions based on the HM4 Thunderbolt are released today. Meet Razzle Dazzle and Double Trouble! 

Razzle Dazzle and Double Trouble are perhaps the most logical limited edition that MB&F ever made with their Horological Machines. While the HM4 Thunderbolt already has the looks of a mid-1900’s fighter airplane, the limited edition for Only Watch 2011 only made that idea stronger. The hand-painted and riveted ‘jet-engines’ of HM-4 remind us of WWII aircrafts.

Real titanium rivets have been hand applied to HM4’s titanium aerodynamic body. The rivets add an extra dimension to the case; they make the HM4 look like jet engines even more than before.

Maximilian Büsser explains: “When I was making model airplanes as a boy, they were mainly WW2 aircraft. HM4 Thunderbolt is an aviation-inspired Machine with its roots in those model plane kits, so it was only natural to start imagining what might HM4 have looked like in that era. Hand painted nose art, real rivets, vintage-look dials, authentic military leather strap and the metamorphosis of the Thunderbolt is complete.”

The dual dials of Razzle Dazzle and Double Trouble – one for the time, the other the power reserve – reflect an accurate patina of age due to the very special hue created by a mixture of paint and microscopic flakes of copper. Besides the vintage looks this also makes it easy to read time with the vintage-look, cream-coloured Super-LumiNova numbers and indices.

Another WWII reference is the leather for the straps on Razzle Dazzle and Double Trouble. MB&F used leather from genuine vintage Swiss military issue bags. Superb details if you ask me.

And the real treat is the hand-painted nose-art. Nose-art? I had no idea they had a name for this, but apparently they do. The miniature nose-art is painted by award-winning miniature painter Isabelle Villa. She perfectly captured the style and spirit of WWII nose art, with the typical images of pin-ups! The case is first machined out to create a ‘canvas’ and after the painting is dry it is coated with protective layers of transparent lacquer so that the nose art finishes flush with the case.

Two Limited Editions of just eight pieces each – a salute to the legendary WWII aircraft we dreamed of when we were kids.
