Live from SIHH 2019 – Charris Yadigaroglou of MB&F

MB&F unveils its hypnotic Medusa clock made in collaboration – the tenth – with Swiss clockmaker L’Epée 1839. As Charris Yadigaroglou, Communication Manager of MB&F reveals in this video, Medusa is an exceptional creation because it was not conceived by founder Max Büsser.  The idea came from independent designer Fabrice Gonet, who in turn was inspired by MB&F’s 2017 Aquapod watch.

Highlights of Medusa:

• The transparent bell-shaped body of the jellyfish that reveals the mechanical heart of the movement was entrusted to a Murano glassblower (and almost didn’t make it to the SIHH 2019 after Venice was flooded last December!)
• Two rotating rings, one for the hours and the other for the minutes, are visible through the dome. The indices and top plate are treated with Super-LumiNova that glows in the dark.
• The suspended movement of Medusa took L’Epée 1839 two years to develop and required a combined system for winding and setting. A single propeller element, which projects from the bottom of the movement, is used to wind the movement and set the time.
• L’Epée engineered the movement around a central axis to imitate the radial symmetry of a jellyfish’s neural column.
• Medusa can sit on your desk using its tentacles as support or be hung from the ceiling. An extra set of hand-blown Murano tentacles are included to maximise the effect of the jellyfish floating in the sea.
• Medusa is available with green, pink or blue Murano domes and tentacles, in limited editions of 50 pieces each.
