Introducing – Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Clasico

| By Brice Goulard | 2 min read |

Cuervo y Sobrinos is a kind of special brand in the industry, as even if the watches are produced in Switzerland, with Swiss mechanical movements, the roots of this watchmaking company are… from La Habana, Cuba. It makes it a brand with a latin DNA and this can be seen in the watches they produce – with a specific and strong design, a mix of vintage and warm atmosphere that, for instance, a German brand couldn’t have. Their latest creation plays on the classical side but still, it shows a interesting design. Here is the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Clasico.

Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Clasico - 1

Don’t expect watches from Cuervo y Sobrinos to be different from the rest of the production because of crazy movements. This is not their goal. However, expect them to be rather unique in terms of design. And that’s something that can be found in the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Clasico. The case, which remains quite reasonable in a diameter (40mm), differentiates with its sculptural lugs, shaped like water drops, a feature that could be found in 1930s/1940s vintage watches – but more squarish and modern in the case of the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Clasico. The rest of the case, in stainless steel, is rather classical (like mentioned in the name of the watch…) with a rounded central part, a small crown and a transparent caseback – and a slim profile of 7.10mm, explain by the movement.

The dial, that is available in Galvanic Blue, in silver and in cooper editions, is also elegant, with a combination of a sun-ray pattern on the periphery, a “clou de Paris” guilloché in the central part. It simply shows the hours and minutes (via rounded hands with a discreet luminous paint tip) and a small second at 6. The Roman numerals and a rail-road track finish this elegant touch.

Under the sapphire caseback of the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Clasico sits a ETA 7001 (a.k.a Peseux), an extra flat hand winding movement with small second. This simple but reliable movement measures only 2.50mm height and is decorated with Geneva Stripes and blued screws. It boasts 42 hours of power reserve.

The Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Clasico combines a nice design, with vintage feeling and latin soul, together with a discreet and elegant feel – and the reliability of a Swiss movement. More details on www.cuervoysobrinos.com.
