Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar Bucherer Blue Editions

Following up with its exclusive collection of blue-coloured watches, the Bucherer “Blue Editions”, which include some pretty cool watches such as this Oris Chronograph or this Breguet Marine, major Swiss watch retailer Bucherer continues to expand its line-up with a high-end piece, this time in a limited edition, with various evolutions compared to the standard model. Say hello to the Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar Bucherer “Blue Editions”.

Apart from introducing some changes to the dials or the straps, the common denominator of (almost) all the Bucherer “Blue Editions” is the use of specific blue dials – or blue details, such as the movement side of this Moser. This was the case when this whole concept began, however, as interest grows, the Swiss retailer has started to make some more dramatic changes on these watches – see the dial of this Breguet for instance, more than just a colour change.

With its latest watch, a special version of the Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar, Bucherer has undertaken some design innovations. Indeed, this watch, in its standard edition (as we reviewed here), has a silvery-white dial with Roman numerals and blued hands. For its version in the “Blue Editions” series, the Senator Excellence first gets the traditional blue treatment, with a specific “Bucherer Blue” tone over a grained surface – a superb dial, manufactured in-house by GO. The rest of the perpetuall calendar display remains the same with a Panorama Date, the day of the week, the month, a moon phase and leap year indications.

The dial is also highly modified; the Roman numerals have been replaced by more modern and more casual metallic applied markers and the rhodium-plated hands are now lance-shaped. Altogether, the watch feels rather different and this dial complements the rather large – 42mm diameter – stainless steel case and the rubber strap – also specific to this edition, with its folding buckle and a “Bucherer 1888” pattern.

Powering this Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar Bucherer “Blue Editions” is the same in-house, chronometer-certified calibre 36-02 as found in all the other editions of this watch. This automatic movement is modern – silicon anti-magnetic escapement – and powerful, with a solid 100-hour power reserve. Its decoration is in the vein of Glashütte Original’s production, meaning detailed and pleasant.

  1. amazing dial! but some weird reason my favorite Senator perpetual calendar is still the one with roman numerals, either the white dial with a red or rose gold case or the stainless steel one also with white dial. my second preferred one would be the black dial with red gold case. anyway, the perpetual calendar by GO is really stunning. The only thing I would improve is the caliber decoration which slightly underperforms relative to the gorgeous dial.
As always thank you Brice for the nice article.
