A.Lange & Söhne Double Split in steel

Yesterday,  11 November 2013, a unique version of the A. Lange & Söhne Double Split was sold for a mind-boggling record price of 380,000 Euros. That’s more than four times the original retail price of the series-production model made in platinum. And the “only” unique thing about it is that the case is in stainless steel instead of the usual platinum or rose gold. Does this mean that Lange & Söhne is moving over to Patek territory?

Just think about it, stainless steel Patek watches usually fetch much higher prices at auctions. The reason: they are as rare as hen’s teeth. Although Lange doesn’t have the long and uninterrupted history that Patek has, this is a very promising sign that Lange watches are already becoming collectable. And that is only supported by the other Lange & Söhne watch that was sold!

A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Luminous

This is the Zeitwerk Luminous that was introduced in 2010 as a limited edition of 100 pieces. All 100 pieces are sold and now the first of them has been offered for auction with an impressive result. It fetched a price of € 122,000 Euros, which is roughly 75% above the original retail price of just 3 years ago!

So, A. Lange & Söhne is a brand to keep an eye on. Not just because they make incredibly beautiful watches, finished to a supreme level, but also because of potential value increase. You know we just love the Double Split, which we reviewed for you earlier this year (see here). Now I’m curious what will happen if the first Zeitwerk Handwerkskunst will be auction!

Congrats to the new owner of this super attractive chronograph: the unique A. Lange & Söhne Double Split in stainless steel.
